Dumfries travelled to Kirkby Stephen with only eight players, but this was to prove a very strong eight indeed.
Winning the toss the skipper elected to have a bat and the two openers got off to a quick start. They were scoring at 12 an over before Max trying to force it a bit too much and was out caught for 20. However Orla continued to dispatch anything in her scoring zone to all part of the ground and finished 30 not out. Fergus B joined James H at the crease and again rotated the strike well and put away any loose bowling. James retired on 31 allowing Niamh to continue her fine form with a quick-fire 16. Aiden played a controlled innings, batting largely with final batters, after Fergus departed for 21. Aiden eventually finishing with a score of 25 not out.
The total always looked a tall order for the home team. This was made even harder by the way both opening bowlers, Katy and Harith, bowled with both keeping a good line and length. Katy finished her 4 overs with 2 wickets. But the star bowler was the spin king Harith who took 4 wickets. The damage was done before the skipper made a bowling change. After watching Harith turning it square the rest of the bowling attack tried to match his impact with a wide range of deliveries, James picking up 3 wickets and Orla getting 1.
The fielding was again good with plenty of energy. Special mention to James for taking 3 catches including a couple of sharp ones in the slips. The only downside of the night was a blow to the finger for Orla attempting a long barrier stop.
Good all round performance team.
