An enthusiastic Dumfries Women's soft ball cricket team undertook their first away fixture of the season on Sunday at the Cricket Scotland Wee Bash tournament at East Kilbride Cricket Club.
There the newly named Dumfries Diamonds team polished off Uddingston in their game but lost their lustre in losses to home side East Kilbride and to Clydesdale.
However after the home tournament triumph of last Sunday the emphasis was on consolidation and team development and this time there was the lack of an incentive of a jug of beer for the next catch. There was also a cut-throat transfer of star performer Jasmine during the week to the Women's hard ball side's fixture which was also on Sunday.
Well done to the team of Ruth, Bethan, Heather, Clare, Kate, Julie O, and Julie M, who also went on to watch the women's game in Edinburgh(!), and congratulations to Kate on her cricket debut.
The Play of the Day was Ruth's innovative crawl technique for a stumping attempt. The Ashleigh Building Player of the Day was Bethan for her batting exploits and her 'Last Man Standing' individual effort with the bat to win against Uddingston. There was also some good work in the field including a direct hit by Heather, plus a wicket, and Julie O was the most improved player for the travelling side.
The team have another Wee Bash tournament coming up on Sunday morning. This time at Drumpellier Cricket Club.
Thank you to Bevo as the travelling umpire and support team.
