It was a Soft Ball Sunday at the weekend with Women & Girls soft ball cricket with the help of the travelling contingent from Galloway.
Next Sunday there are more soft ball games (from 10:30am-1pm) at Nunholm with a 6-a-side Summer Wee Bash with visiting teams and suitable for those starting to play. [Anyone who would like to play, or would like to try soft ball cricket, please email womenscricket@dumfriescricketclub.com ]
A pre-game warm-up of lightning cricket had an impressive score of 220 chased successfully (just) and then a pairs format game had 6 different pairings batting and 24 overs bowled with everyone getting the opportunity of a bat and a bowl.
Macey and Nicola topped the pairs runs scorers by just one run from Kelly and Kerry. Highlights included Macey bowling the unplayable delivery and hitting the stumps twice in one over. The only catching chance was well taken by Kerry successfully avoiding the stumps, non-striker and importantly the umpire. Joy took her first wicket, bowled. Ruth also hit the middle stump but was proved correct in saying she couldn't do it again. Well done to Enna with her first bat in the middle with mum Ginny. Marium, in her first game, had a good batting partnership with Louise and Bethan and Ruth finished third amongst the run scorers but were stalled by having to face Macey's bowling.
It was good to see those starting to play having a go and getting some more experience and receiving plenty of encouragement from the others.
We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and that we might see as many as possible again at this Sunday's soft ball Wee Bash.
PS: A special mention is required for Ruth for doing the challenging double of Saturday Gin Fest and Sunday morning soft ball.
