Scotland Eagles swoop to snatch the points at Nunholm
On Sunday, Dumfries Cricket Club hosted the two Cricket Scotland Regional Women’s sides, the Stormers and the Eagles, who continued their regional series with a double-header of two T20 matches. Most of the Scotland Women’s squad were involved and they had the additional incentive of performing for a place in the Scotland World Cup squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup Qualifying tournament in Scotland in late August.
The side from the East, the Eagles, dominated in both games as the Bryce sisters led the way with the bat in both of the twenty overs-a-side matches. Scotland Captain Kathryn Bryce hit 54 not out and took three wickets as a target of 107 for 3 was successfully chased in game one. In game two, Scotland keeper Sarah Bryce hit 94 not out and Kathryn 42 in a big total of 184 for 3. In reply the Stormers responded with 118 for 6 for the second defeat of the day.
That was a debut match for fourteen year-old Orla Montgomery who made her first appearance for the Stormers.
She and Galloway's Jess McCulloch played for Scotland Women under-17s during the week against Durham and they are joined by thirteen year-old Dumfries junior Katy Anderson, for her first selection, in the squad travelling to play two County Championship matches in England next week.
